Welcome to ACE Kendo Academy.

Located in Chantilly, Virginia, ACE is a full-time martial art studio offering classes Monday through Friday, to adults, teens, and children.

ACE was founded a few years ago as a small club, but the pandemic forced the club to close down. ACE was fortunate enough to find a permanent location and re-opened in November of 2022, and have been actively teaching, learning, and competing.

ACE is led by Grand Master Sang Wook Cha (6 Dan), a former professional Kendo athlete in Korea, with experience in both competitive and coaching backgrounds. Master Cha brings traditional swordsmanship in a more approachable curriculum, and emphasizes a fun-learning environment, while slowly influencing his students to reach maturity in character and physical skills. His goal is to make Kendo more accessible to the general public and hopes to contribute to a healthy lifestyle through Kendo in our community.

ACE also has three support sensei.

Master Sung Kyu Lee (5 Dan), has been practicing since the late-1990s and brings an incredible wealth of knowledge, theory, sword forms, and history to ACE.

Master Seung Nam Kim (3 Dan), has been practicing since the mid-1980s and is incredible in leading by example during practice sessions at ACE.

Master Yong Wook Back (4 Dan), has been practicing since the early-2000s and contributes to student relations and marketing efforts to help ACE grow.

Although a very young school in the area, ACE is confident in the quality of teaching, masters’ experience and quality, and a continued effort in developing the curriculum and standards to strive to be the best Kendo studio in the area.
